GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

  • Plan constituent and stakeholder meetings and events based on research and team goals
  • Illustrate team concepts by designing materials with art and copy
  • Create data visualizations to convey i-team work and initiatives
  • Oversee continuity in all creative elements including web, social media, print, and other creative mediums
  • Manage innovation team website – innovatesyracuse.com
  • Provide creative direction and insight into innovation team work and materials for in-house staff and third-party vendors
  • Develop and manage innovation team’s creative assets (presentations, templates, web design assets, etc.)
  • Capture and archive media from events, meetings, and other related innovation team functions
  • Manage digital file structure
  • Document and archive meeting notes, research materials, innovation processes, and other materials as needed
  • Design and manage innovation team’s annual priority area report
  • Develop sharable platform for innovation delivery approach research and annual priority area report
  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with numerous city government officials and other stakeholders
  • Consult with internal and external experts to continually accept new challenges, generate innovative solutions and assess their feasibility
  • Provide and communicate in a confidential capacity regarding program execution and performance, in addition to, providing candid assessments to the Project Manager, Director, and, where appropriate, the Mayor’s senior advisers
  • Represent the i-team and the Mayor’s Office at meetings with city department leadership and line employees as directed
  • Exercise independent judgment in the performance of certain duties
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Specialized skills or experience in the following are preferred, though not required:

  • Experience with the following code languages: CSS, HTML, Javascript, PHP
  • Familiarity with Content Management Platforms such as: Drupal, Wordpress, Buddypress, and Squarespace
  • Conducting of impact oriented research in the social sciences with implementation focus and quantitative aspects, including research, analytics, and document development
  • Experience with social media management tools and resources
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and ArcMaps
  • Experience with Google Drive tools
  • Developing API scripts/calls
  • Facilitation of idea generation sessions and developing actionable items from them
  • Experience with Photography and Videography in addition to the editing tools associated with those mediums
  • Preparation of visual presentations by designing art and copy or digital layouts to effectively engage all necessary stakeholders to support success and obtain results
  • Desktop publishing tools experience
  • Attentiveness to details, deadline-oriented, acute vision, and the ability to handle criticism in a constructive way
  • Development or designing of software solutions

Core Competencies/Qualifications

Characteristics of successful candidates for this position include demonstrated:

  • Expert understanding of graphic design principals (layout, typography, continuity, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Muse, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro)
  • Knowledge of digital tools or applications that can enhance workflow and environment
  • Ability to research and outline best practices in strategic subject areas, contextualize this research to local relevance, and synthesize content to drive action-oriented dialogue
  • Ability to design maps and analyze the performance of service processes
  • Ability to review and synthesize for the Director and Program Manager the latest developments in relevant civic design and civic engagement activities
  • Ability to manage projects that involve multiple stakeholders, constituencies, and/or agencies
  • Experience in conducting process improvement analyses and recommending changes that save time and money
  • Ability to thoughtfully communicate with team leaders and relevant stakeholders
  • Design, engineering, or technical abilities which may not typically be associated with government
